Baseball Season Is Coming. What Are You Contemplating?

Listed in: Baseball

Almost a year ago, in anticipation of baseball season, I wrote a piece contemplating how ballplayers' actions are filtered through the passage of time until an overall conception of reality is fashioned for people today. This idea is not unique to sports, but what is unique is the type of connection people make to athletes, and I thought my reactions to how I think of athletes past and present worth noting. I concentrated on icons of two different ages: Joe Dimaggio, Ted Williams, and Barry Bonds, and I think it's worth revisiting it, since the filtering process continues to unfold.

The link in the first sentence above leads to the original column. The player below contains an audio presentation of the piece, with a direct link to the mp3 file below it.
