Welcome Wiggles!
Listed in: FootballAccording to Sportszilla sources in Cleveland, the Seattle Seahawks have traded for one Charlie "Wiggles" Frye (if you don't get the Wiggles joke, you clearly don't watch Futurama nearly as much as Ben and I). Frye was once thought to be the QB of the future in Cleveland, but the shine wore off that real quick once the Browns saw that he had an average arm and almost no decision-making ability. The move doesn't make a ton of sense for the Seahawks in that Frye is almost certainly worse than current backup QB Seneca Wallace, but what the move does is free them up to put Wallace on the field occasionally as a receiver/returner. With DJ Hackett going out with the dreaded "high ankle sprain," which could easily cost him a month or more, Seattle's depth at wideout is looking less and less impressive.
It remains to be seen if Frye will eventually take over as the #2 QB, and even if that does happen I'd be a bit surprised if Wallace wasn't the guy who came in if Hasselbeck were ever to get hurt. Wallace has been in the system for years and has played decently when needed, while Frye is new to the system and has done nothing but suck (granted, that's while playing for a bad Cleveland squad, but still).
Also, apparently Bryce Fisher has been traded to Tennessee. While I know he'd lost his starting job to Darryl Tapp, I'm surprised they were willing to lose some depth on the D-line. I guess acquiring Jason Babin last week has them full up at end. A surprisingly eventful day for the Seahawks.
